Lumbini
The birth place of
Lord Gautam Buddha is located some 250 km west of Kathmandu, on the plains of Kapilvastu. The highlights of this place are the sacred garden; the stone pillar erected by the maurayan Emperor Ashoka in 250 B.C., near by is a scared stone which bear the footprint of Ashoka that pinpoints the exact birth place of Buddha. The sacred pond, Puskarni, lies right besides, where queen Mayadevi took her ritual bath right before she gave birth to Lord Buddha, the enlightened one. Tilaurakot some 27 km from Lumbini is another interesting historical place, which has the recently excavated ruins of the palace of King Sudhodhan. The highlight here is the eastern gate of the royal palace through which Prince Siddhartha had departed on his quest for the essence of human life. The Kapilvastu museum should be visited here. Besides this Niglihawa, Taulihawa, Sagarhawa & Gtohawa, Arorakot are also very interesting place to visit while in Lumbini.
